Perry (only 400 bottles made)

£28.00

Made from just five perry pear trees in the Exe valley. Four from Brampford Speke and one much further up the Exe on the edge of Exmoor. We let the perry we pressed in 2021 mature and develop for a year in stainless steel then blended it with the perry pressed in 2022, which keeved spontaneously. The natural pear sugars have been slowly fermenting in the bottle, creating a gentle, natural effervescence.

Tasting notes from The Cider Review [Adam Wells]:

On the nose: Beautifully defined, clear aromatics. All the ripe fruit of Blakeney Red – canteloupe, kiwi, passion fruit, nectarine – plus the mineral complexities of Butt, that pear skin, wet slate and almost natural gas. Almost a coastal salinity, too. Feels very of its place. Fruits and the sea.

In the mouth: Epic delivery, again combining the best qualities of both pears. Lovely, round, off-dry, juicy Blakeney Red body, bags and bags of pear fruit, plus that fullness and gentle tannic grip of Butt lending structure. Flavours follow aromatics perfectly but are even bigger and juicier – a pure fruit basket of pears, melons, passion fruits augmented by all those mineral qualities and a sherbety fizziness.

In a nutshell: A basket of ripe fruit swung on a coastal walk. Divine perry, worth every penny.
